  • Environment (the where)
    • Strategies: Flexible groupings, Consistent, predictable and structured, Flexibility to respond to emerging needs, Students involved in decisions, Culture reflects that ALL students are valued & capable learners, Atmosphere that honors all worldviews, Healthy relationships of teachers, students and parents/guardians, Student voice and choice, Students accountable in fair and equitable way
  • Content (the what)
    • Strategies: Builds on students’ prior knowledge, Multiple resources at varying levels (including technology), Auditory and visual teaching tools, Provide interest-based resources, Flexible grouping (interest-based, ability), Manipulatives, hands-on exploration, Learning centres, task cards, Journal entries – learning splats, Open-ended mini-projects; Genius Hour, Relevant and credible resources that reflect learners, Inquiry learning, Use real-world connections, Games, storytelling, Assessment is key
  • Process (the how)
    • Variety of resources and learning tools to make sense of ideas and concepts through different pathways. Students need time to reflect & digest before moving on
      Strategies:Think-pair-share, Elbow buddies or turn & talk, Gallery walk/Carousel, Journaling, Tiered instruction, Experiential learning, Reading or literature circles, Learning centers, Flexible groupings, Manipulatives, hands-on, Interactive websites, CompactingMore time, less time, Assessment is key
  • Product (show what you know) 
    • Strategies: Make a chart or diagram, Write a letter, make a game, Participate in a simulation, Write a poem, do a photo essay, Metaphors/analogies, Devise a new recipe, Digital story, book talk, Visual representation, Design a structure, Demonstrations, Write a comic strip, cartoons, Performances, dramatization, Create a brochure, Conduct an interview, Write and perform a puppet show, Present a news report
